The walks have taken place in the town for more than 100 years and involves all Padiham churches and St Margaret’s in Hapton.

In recent years the future of the Whit Walks has been threatened by cuts to policing budgets but the popularity of the event was very much evident on Sunday.

A spokesman said: “The Walks came under threat in 2014, but the strength of support among Padihamers means that the event remains a very important one in the Padiham church and social calendar.
