Marie scoops top shopping centre award

Burnley's Marie Gribben has been crowned shopping centre Manager of the Year at the UK's SCEPTRE Awards.

The SCEPTRE awards scheme recognises leading practice and the best people in the shopping centre industry, putting the spotlight on management teams, retailers and suppliers that demonstrate real excellence.

Marie started her career in shopping centre management at Charter Walk in 1999 as a customer care co-ordinator. She progressed quickly to promotions manager and then became the deputy manager finally leaving in 2008.

She worked in several schemes in the North-West including Manchester Fort, Middleton shopping centre and she now manages Mill Gate shopping centre in Bury.

Marie joined Mill Gate as centre manager in summer 2014. Since she took over Mill Gate has gone from strength to strength with the Bury centre now nearly fully let and footfall up.

Marie, who was presented with a glass trophy, said: “I’m absolutely thrilled that I’ve won this fantastic award. It is not only a great personal achievement for me but a testament to the fantastic team behind Mill Gate, our retailers and shoppers”

Marie was up against the manager of The Exchange in Ilford and Broad Street Mall in Reading in the medium sized shopping centre category.

The awards ceremony took place at The Dorchester in London.
