Five fire engines were needed to tackle a fire at a busy recycling centre.
The blaze at White Recycling, off Accrington Road, Hapton, started shortly after 11am on Friday when a machine caught fire.
Luckily, the fire didn’t spread to other buildings in the complex which recycles all kinds of waste including plastic and cardboard.
Police had to provide assistance on the main road outside the site as fire-fighters led a hose from the road up to the scene of the fire.
Mr Paul Wren, general manager at White Recycling which has its head office in Eccles, said: “We think the fire stared due to a fault in one of our material handler machine.
“The fire was brought under control reasonably quickly and thankfully no-one was injured. There was quite a bit of oil from the machine.”
The fire service confirmed that an aerial ladder platform was used and that there were 10 tonnes of excavation waste in the building.
