Many homeowners are this morning assessing the damage after 80mph winds battered Burnley last night.
Torrential downpours and gale force winds brought the town and the surrounding area to a standstill as trees were ripped from the ground, power cut in homes and rail services cancelled.
A red weather warning was issued by the Met Office yesterday morning with the worst of “Wild Wednesday’s” weather hitting Lancashire between 4pm and midnight.
Motorists were lucky to escape incident after a tree fell across Casterton Avenue while another was blown over outside Mamma Mia’s Restaurant in Padiham.
Earlier in the day Burnley Council moved to close a number of parks in the area including Towneley Park, Queen’s Park, Thompson Park, Scott Park, Ightenhill Park and Memorial Park.
