The occupants of a Burnley house were forced to flee their home when a fire broke out in a bedroom in the early hours of this morning.

Firefighters were called to the mid-terraced property, in Waterbarn Street, at 2-35am. When they arrived the occupants were outside the house after being alerted by a smoke alarm.

Crews found the first-floor front bedroom heavily smokelogged and two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus were deployed to tackle the flames. They then used a ventilation unit to rid the building of smoke. The house was left smoke damaged and with some fire damage to the bedroom.

Crews said it was too early to tell what caused the fire.
