A CARING mum, musician and actress has died after a brave battle with leukaemia.
Mrs Christine Braithwaite (67) was well known throughout Burnley and Pendle for her accomplished euphonium playing with the Burnley Alliance Silver Band.
She also played professionally for many years with the Eidelburgers Oompah Band, which she formed with her devoted husband Norman Braithwaite, and was a conductor of the Colne Borough Band.
Mr Braithwaite, of Higher Reedley Road, Brierfield, said: “Christine was a bubbly and friendly character who showed wonderful Christian virtues and was always on hand to help anybody any time.
“After the oompah band we joined the Baron Von Rhinesteins Bavarian Band with Christine contributing vocals and comedy. Christine worked regularly as a double for the character of Ivy in Last of the Summer Wine. She also did a lot of extra work on shows such as Coronation Street, Emmerdale and The League of Gentlemen. She was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2003 but never let it get her down.”
Mrs Braithwaite, who was married to Norman for 47 years, had a great knowledge of local history and was a member of the Friends of St Peter’s Church.
Her husband added: “Christine was also a keen sports fan. She was a vocal and very vociferous supporter of Colne Cricket Club and a season-ticket holder at Burnley Football Club. She was also an accomplished table tennis player. Christine will be sorely missed by her many friends and groups.”
Mrs Braithwaite also leaves son Gary and grandchildren Daniel and Oliver.
