“We are so proud to be hosting the first ever East Lancashire Pride event, it’s been one of my dreams and now it’s reality,” said Mr Clark. “We really do hope that the community of Burnley comes out to show their support.

“Over the weekend we have various charities and businesses at the expo area and in the evenings we will have Pride parties at Smackwater Jacks and The Town Mouse. The event was organised in six weeks on a very limited budget. For those that would like to take part they can visit www.burnleypride.co.uk.”

Mr Hyland added: “We are hoping that with the support we have had from Smackwater Jacks and The Town Mouse, the event is celebrated by the community.

“With this being the first pride event in East Lancashire we wanted to keep it small and see what the reaction was from the community.”

Gay Pride or LGBT Pride is the positive stance against discrimination and violence toward lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people to promote their self-affirmation, dignity, equality rights, increase their visibility as a social group, build community, and celebrate sexual diversity and gender variance. East Lancashire LGBT meets twice monthly in Burnley and Colne and the group arrange various events and attend other pride events around the North West.
