A top policeman who played a leading role in the response to the disturbances in Burnley in 2001 has been recognised by the Queen in the New Year’s Honours.

Deputy Chief Constable Chris Weigh has been awarded The Queen’s Police Medal (QPM) for services to policing.

Mr Weigh (48) joined Lancashire Constabulary in 1984 and has dedicated his entire career to policing in the county.
