A 17-year-old boy has died after getting into difficulty in water at Burwain Sailing Club in Foulridge.

Around 7-30pm on Sunday, emergency services received a report the teenager had got into difficulty after he and six others had launched a raft into the water.

Five were rescued and were unhurt; a sixth was taken by ambulance to hospital for a check-up.

A rescue operation was launched, with the Underwater Search Unit continuing to search for the 17-year-old throughout the night.

Police reported that, around 5-40am this morning (Monday), a body was recovered from the reservoir.

“That is all the information we are in a position to release at the this time,” a spokesman said.
