Baron Laird (46) established Jazzman Grooves in Bull Street in 1989, but has now moved – across the road – to the former Burnley Express reception.

Baron, who was treated at Blackburn and Preston hospitals, said: “The cancer really put things into perspective so when the opportunity came to move into bigger premises I thought, why not. I’ve been fascinated by barbers shops since being a child and I’m really pleased with the new place, we’ve already got a lot of new clients and it’s looking very stylish.”

The popular dad-of-four, who married long-term partner Lynda in 2014, was diagnosed with neck cancer in 2013 after finding a lump. Baron has now urged men to get any abnormalities checked out if they are concerned.

He added: “I know some men aren’t keen on going to the doctor’s but they really should. I haven’t been given the all-clear yet but I’m doing as well as can be now and looking to the future.
