Applause tribute in honour of lifelong Clarets fan

Clarets fans are preparing to pay a special tribute to a lifelong fan who died this week.

Fans attending the home game at Turf Moor on Saturday against Liverpool will be asked to take part in a minute's applause at the 44th minute of the game in honour of Neil Kennerley who died yesterday at the age of 44.

Neil went missing from his home in the Sycamore Avenue area of Burnley on Monday at midnight and his family launched a search of the area as it was so out of character for him. His body was discovered at tea-time yesterday (Wednesday)

During the minute's applause a photograph of Neil will be displayed on the big screen and the match will be attended by his two sons, Nathan (18) and five-year-old Logan..

The tribute has been organised by Neil's pal, Jimmy Eccles, who wants to get the message out to as many fans as possible about it.

He said: "Neil was part of the Clarets family, a true lifelong Burnley fan who sadly lost his life this week.

"He was a true genuine friend and a family man and his two sons will be there so let's show them the love we have for a fellow Claret."

Self employed gardener Neil was a popular and well loved character in the town who was well known through his involvement with boys' football coaching.
