AROUND 40,000 vocal Clarets supporters packed the streets of Burnley centre to celebrate their side's astonishing promotion to the Premier League.
Police had cordoned off roads around Centenary Way, Finsley Gate and Manchester Road from 3 p.m. yesterday to create a route for three open top buses which passengered the town's Wembley heroes.
Some diehard fans had waited since the early hours of the afternoon to get a glimpse of manager Owen Coyle, goalscorer Wade Elliott, man-of-the-match Clark Carlisle and the rest of the squad that had made the 2008/09 season so special.
Supporters chanted songs for hours before the players and staff made their way from Turf Moor to the Town Hall where they were greeted and congratulated by councillors and Mayor of Burnley Coun. John Harbour.
They were then treated to food and champagne before venturing out on to the balcony where they were quizzed by Burnley fan Alistair Campbell before each of them applauded their adoring supporters who were in dreamland.
