Woman dragged from street in Burnley attack

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a woman was dragged from the street and assaulted as she walked home in Burnley.

The offence is alleged to have taken place just after midnight on Sunday. The 19-year-old victim was walking alone along Harold Street when she was approached by a man who asked for her phone number.

When she refused the man grabbed her by her wrist and dragged her towards a wooded area where she managed to break free and call police.

Her attacker is in his 40s, of average build, around 5ft. 10in. tall and was wearing a dark hooded top with dark coloured tracksuit trousers.

Det. Insp. Marie Haworth, from Pennine CID, said: “This is a serious incident in which a woman has been grabbed from the street.

“The motive for the assault is unknown at this stage and fortunately she was unharmed but I would appeal to anybody that thinks they witnessed this incident or anyone acting suspicious in the area to come forward.”

Anyone with any information should call Lancashire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
