Woman dragged from street in Burnley attack
POLICE are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a woman was dragged from the street and assaulted as she walked home in Burnley.
The offence is alleged to have taken place just after midnight on Sunday. The 19-year-old victim was walking alone along Harold Street when she was approached by a man who asked for her phone number.
When she refused the man grabbed her by her wrist and dragged her towards a wooded area where she managed to break free and call police.
Her attacker is in his 40s, of average build, around 5ft. 10in. tall and was wearing a dark hooded top with dark coloured tracksuit trousers.
Det. Insp. Marie Haworth, from Pennine CID, said: “This is a serious incident in which a woman has been grabbed from the street.
“The motive for the assault is unknown at this stage and fortunately she was unharmed but I would appeal to anybody that thinks they witnessed this incident or anyone acting suspicious in the area to come forward.”
