AN ANNIVERSARY ale inspired by the Burnley Express has become the toast of Westminster.

Brewer’s Scoop was created to mark 125 years of this historic newspaper by award-winning local brewer Moorhouse’s.

Now the 4.2% celebration ale has brought a taste of Burnley to the most distinguished bar in the land.

The craft beer was installed on tap at the famous Strangers’ Bar in the Houses of Parliament. And Brewer’s Scoop proved so popular with senior ministers and MPs it reportedly sold out in just two days.

Mr David Grant, managing director of Moorhouse’s Brewery, said it was a great advertisement for the town. “Brewer’s Scoop was created for the anniversary of the Burnley Express and has proved very popular. It has gone far and wide. Gordon Birtwistle tried it and has taken it down there.

“It is a privilege to be able to put beer into the Houses of Parliament and it is a pleasure to see it in there. It gives the people that run our country and make the decisions in the halls of power an opportunity to try great quality home-brewed beer.”

Gordon Birtwistle, MP for Burnley and Padiham, said: “It is brilliant news. You can get all sorts of brews in the Strangers’ Bar some with very odd names. But I am delighted Moorhouse’s has got in and I think it will go down very well in Westminster. It is a very busy bar and there are some very influential people and senior ministers that go there. Moorhouse’s is now a world famous brewery. It is another Burnley success story.”

Moorhouse’s created 30,000 pints of Brewer’s Scoop to mark the landmark year of the Express and it is still available to try in pubs across town.
