POLICE investigating a hit-and-run which left a Burnley mum with a broken back hope a person who called up with vital clues will recontact officers.

Mum-of-four Janet Mee suffered a broken spine when she was struck be a vehicle in Laithe Street as she picked her children up from nursery on December 13th.

A person called Crimestoppers anonymously before Christmas with information about the collision which left Ms Mee paralysed.

Now officers hope the caller will recontact Crimestoppers to clarify some of the details which could be crucial to the investigation.

PC Michael Raw, from Pennine Road Policing Unit said: “I want to reassure this person that they can remain anonymous, we just need to ask them one or two questions to clarify some of the details they provided and so I would urge them to make contact with us, or Crimestoppers again if they can.”

The collision happened at around 4pm on Thursday, December 13th, on Laithe Street as Ms Mee picked her children up from a nursery nearby.

Moments after she had got the children into her dark blue Volkswagen Sharan, she was hit by another vehicle travelling along Laithe Street from Springhill Road. It is thought she was hit by the wing mirror of a champagne coloured car, similar to a Jaguar, which did not stop at the scene and turned right towards Berry Street. The driver is believed to be a man who was elderly and had grey hair. Ms Mee was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital for treatment. She has since been released from hospital and is recovering at home.

PC Raw continued: “I would also continue to appeal to anybody else that witnessed this incident or with any information that could assist with our investigation to contact Lancashire Police.”

Anyone with any information should call Lancashire Police on 101 quoting log number LC-20121213-1360 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
