TWELVE suspected drug dealers have been arrested in a blitz on organised crime in Burnley.

More than 130 officers stormed houses across Burnley in a series of coordinated early morning raids today.

Police raided 11 addresses in Burnley during the second phase of Operation Regenerate which saw 12 people arrested in Pendle during action last week.

Eight men and four women were arrested across Burnley today and are currently being questioned on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

Warrants were executed at two addresses in Spencer Street and two in Griffin Close. Police teams also raided properties in Waterbarn Street, March Street, Thursby Road, Linby Street, Francis Street, Reedley Road, Cameron Street and Parkinson Street.

Searches were being carried out at the addresses for further evidence while members of the local neighbourhood police teams conducted reassurance patrols to explain the action to residents.

Supt Damian Darcy, from Pennine Division police, who led the operation said: “Once again we have taken action to tackle organised crime and suspected drug dealing in Pennine Division.

“I hope the action helps to reassure people in Burnley that we are taking action to deal with the problems that are affecting their neighbourhoods.

“Drugs can blight our communities. People have told us that drug dealing, crime and anti-social behaviour are issues affecting their community. Not only do they bring obvious dangers to a person’s health, but they also lead to further anti-social behaviour and crime such as burglary, robbery and car crime, which are often committed to fund a drug habit.”

Supt Darcy underlined that information was key and urged people to come forward with concerns and report suspicious behaviour to help the police clamp down on drug dealing.

He added: “We must work together. If you know something, please speak to us so that we can take action.”

Of the 12 people arrested in the Nelson raids, five were charged, six released on police bail and one released without charge.
