A PADIHAM policeman completed a gruelling 12-hour ultra-marathon challenge to help a local teenager in need of a lung transplant.
PC Dave Pascoe (44) ran non-stop for a whole half day to help raise money for brave Padiham teen Hayley Barker who has also battled Leukaemia.
The former military man’s amazing charity bid saw him run just under 75 miles in 12 hours - the equivalent of almost three marathons.
The incredible distance, which is the same as running to Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire, saw PC Pascoe raise more than £1,400 for the 16-year-old Burnley College student.
Before the challenge he said: “Hayley got leukaemia when she was just eight years old. They thought she had beaten it but it came back with a vengeance when she was 13.
“She now needs a lung transplant and she has a breathing machine.
“They want to help improve her quality of life.”
PC Pascoe set off at 10 am on the mammoth run and did not stop until 10pm on Friday.
Well-wishers watched on as PC Pascoe completed the 74.6-mile slog on a treadmill which had been set up in The Bridge Pub in Padiham.
Police colleagues, pub regulars and staff supported the charity bid as donations piled up in a bucket by Pc Pascoe’s side.
The Rosegrove-based bobby even managed to update his progress on social media which helped more money pile in for the cause.
Friends offered hundreds of extra pounds to see PC Pascoe break the 70-mile barrier which he smashed on the ultra-marathon run.
Posting a message after the amazing charity challenge, PC Pascoe said: “Can I just say a massive ‘thank you’ for all those that came to the pub or texted or commented on what I have done today - it made such a difference and resulted in me achieving something I never thought I was capable of.
“It just shows with good friends, family and a great girl in Kelly my fiancée, who helped me get dressed afterwards, that you can do anything you set your mind to.
“About £1,400 was raised for Hayley. Thank you!”
