Padiham mum hit her partner with a pan

Burnley Magistrates Court

A DRUNK mum who hit her partner twice with a pan after a night out remembered nothing about it, a court was told. Burnley magistrates heard how depressed Samantha Shails (31) struck Andrew Mills with such force, the pan handle broke.

Shails, said by her solicitor to have allegedly suffered domestic violence at the hands of the victim over years, had smashed a window with a brick. She could remember that, but not the attack.

The defendant, of Whitegate Close, Padiham, admitted assault by beating at Padiham on July 18th. She was given an eight-month supervision order and must pay £100 compensation and £85 costs. The court was told Mr Mills was left with a gashed head.

Mark Williams, for Shails, said she had gone out with friends, had a few drinks in Colne and Nelson, and was somewhat worse for wear. She recalled an incident between the pair of them, but not the details of it. Shails did not dispute the allegation at the police

station.

The defendant had no previous convictions and going to the police station and appearing in court had “all been something of a shock.”

Mr Williams said: “She hasn’t touched a drop since this incident. It’s been a salutary lesson.”

The solicitor added Shails suffered from depression and had not been taking her medication at the time, as it made her feel numb and drowsy.
