The Olympic Torch will blaze a path through Burnley on Saturday, June 23rd.

Torchbearers will start on Accrington Road, before journeying through Sandygate and the town centre, before setting off up Manchester Road and eventually to London for the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games.

Mayor of Burnley Coun. David Heginbotham said: “This is a massive honour for our town.

“The Olympic Torch is passing through many places across the country but it’s wonderful that Burnley gets to host the torch team. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for people to see it at first hand.

“We want to see people lining the streets of the route and joining together to mark this occasion, one of many in what is set to be a big year for the UK.

“We are looking forward to greeting the inspirational torchbearers as they run through the town, and I am certain that Burnley will give them a welcome worthy of a gold medal.

“Watch this space for more details of what we are planning for the day.”

Members of the public are encouraged to go along and celebrate this once in a lifetime event. Events and activities for all the family will be taking place across the town on the day of the torch relay.

The streets along the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay, which can be viewed in full at www.london2012.com/olympictorchrelay, gives street-by-street details and proposed start times for when the Olympic Flame will travel through Burnley.

Residents living in and around Burnley can find out when it will be travelling along their nearest high street, through their town square or past their local village shop.

The torchbearers confirmed to carry the flame today include those that were successful through the public nomination processes.
