A MAN was punched in the face in an unprovoked attack in Burnley.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the assault in Yorkshire Street on Saturday, August 18th, at around 7-40pm.

The victim, a 51-year-old local man, was approached by a man on the street who then punched him to the side of the face causing him to fall to the floor.

Police were called and when officers arrived they were pointed in the direction of the offender by witnesses. Officers went to find the man but to no avail and when they returned the witnesses had left the scene. Police now want to trace those people as they believe they could have vital information.

PC David Kingsnorth from Burnley police said: “I would appeal to those people who were at the scene to come forward and contact us. We believe they may have vital information that will enable us to track down the attacker.

“The victim was treated at the Royal Blackburn Hospital for his injuries and is now recovering. Anyone who has information about this attack should come forward and contact the police.”

Anyone with information is asked to call PC Kingsnorth at Burnley police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
