Man banned from 13 Rawtenstall pubs for 18 months

POLICE have issued a warning after a man was banned from 13 pubs in Rawtenstall for 18 months under the terms of an exclusion order.

Levi Sumner, 23, of Burnley Road East, Waterfoot, appeared at Burnley Magistrates Court on Friday 21 September where he was convicted of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour. He was given a suspended sentence, a 12 month community order and a 12 month supervision order.

The Court also granted an 18 month exclusion order meaning he is banned from entering the Ashworth Arms (Bacup Road and Burnley Road), Blue Bell, Boars Head, Craven Heifer, Crown, Madison Park Wine Bar, Old House at Home, Queens Arms Hotel, Red Lion, Rhythm Station, Riverside Inn and White Lion. If he is found in any of the premises, he faces prosecution.

Sumner, who was already banned under the terms of the Pubwatch scheme, admitted trying to punch and head but a member of door staff as he was being ejected from the Queens Arms, Bacup Road, Rawtenstall, around 2.30am on 30 June 2012.

Licensing Officer Sgt Michelle Dixon said: “Sumner has continued to cause problems for both door staff and licensees in the town. We will not tolerate this type of behaviour and we will continue to work closely with licensees and door staff to keep our pubs and clubs safe for everyone.

“The message is clear, if you come to Rawtenstall for a night out and can’t handle your drink, you may find yourself banned from pubs for a considerable amount of time.”
