BURNLEY’S world famous cricketer James Anderson was bowled over at his own benefit day.
The England and Lancashire County Cricket Club fast bowler celebrated his benefit year with a day at Accrington Golf Club where he had the opportunity to practice a different type of swing.
Jimmy, known as the “Burnley Express” started his cricketing career at Burnley in the Lancashire League, and is widely regarded as one of the best swing and seam bowlers in the world.
He was recently given the honour of being the youngest Freeman of the Borough in Burnley.
Local brewer Daniel Thwaites sponsored the event which also involved Lancashire players including Gareth Cross, Glen Chapple, Paul Horton and Karl Brown.
Jimmy said: “As a native of Lancashire it’s an honour to play cricket for my home county and a huge privilege to be awarded a benefit year.”
