Firefighters tackle the blaze in Waterbarn Street, Burnley

POLICE and firefighters have launched an investigation after a blaze ripped through a Burnley house early this morning.

Fire crews from Burnley and Nelson battled to contain the fire and several residents were evacuated after flames engulfed the first floor of the property in Waterbarn Street, off Colne Road, shortly after 5am.

Firefighters initially thought someone was in the house but a search revealed it to be empty. The incident is being treated as suspicious.
