A MASSIVE power cut hit almost 2,000 homes across Burnley last night.

The electricity supply failed at 10pm plunging 1,835 homes and businesses into darkness.

The blackout hit areas in Accrington Road, Padiham Road and Lowerhouse for up to an hour.

Engineers from Electricity North West were sent out to fix the power cut which was caused by an underground cable fault in the Cog Lane area.

Officials at the energy network operator said more than 1,500 homes had power restored by 10-24pm and the remaining properties saw electricity supplies repaired by 10-55pm.

Park Hill Business Park remained without power overnight but engineers were expected to fix the problem this morning.
