A HIGH value car was stolen in Burnley after sneak thieves stole the keys from inside a house.

The £18,000 red Audi A3 was stolen from outside a house in Gainsborough Avenue after a burglar went through an unlocked door and stole the keys from the hallyway on Monday.

Now, police are warning residents to keep their homes secure and their car keys out of sight following the theft which happened between 10pm and 10-50pm while the victim was upstairs.

Enquiries are ongoing to find out who was responsible and police are urging anyone with information to contact them.

Officers are urging residents to make sure their homes are secure and that they move their keys away from any doors or windows.

Det. Insp Jes Holland said: “It’s no longer as easy for a thief to hotwire a car so instead they will specifically look for your keys, often breaking into your home to get them.

“Please don’t become an easy target by leaving your doors or windows unlocked with your keys by the entrance. If you keep your home locked with your keys out of sight and in a secure place you are much less likely to become a victim.”

Anyone with information can contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
