Heartless thieves target Burnley graves
HEARTLESS thieves have targeted graves in a Burnley churchyard.
Criminals raided 12 flagstones from memorials in the graveyard at the Haggate Baptist Church.
Police say the thieves removed the coverings from the top of graves before lifting the flagstones and loading them over a wall into a vehicle near the Nelson Road church.
Officers are now hunting the culprits who are believed to have struck sometime between midnight on Tuesday, July 31st and midnight on Sunday, August 12th.
PCSO Rachel Lonsdale said: “This is a despicable crime where thieves have targeted the graves of people’s relatives and that is why we are asking for the public’s help.
“It’s likely that the vehicle was parked on the main road so I’d urge anyone that saw anything suspicious in the area or any vehicle parked where you would not expect it to be please contact police on 101.”
Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area to contact police on 101 or alternatively to contact their local Neighbourhood police team.
People with information can also contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or on-line at Crimestoppers-uk.org.
