A HAPTON man is preparing for a 1,000-mile bike ride across the UK to raise funds for Pendleside Hospice.

Mr Trevor Jennings (31), of Bridgefield Street, will set off on the two-week expedition on June 5th and cover around 75 miles a day.

Mr Jennings, who works as an area manager for a refrigeration company in Stockport, will be joined along the gruelling route from John O’Groats to Land’s End by dad Roger who will drive a support vehicle.

He will also be accompanied on sections of the trip by his wife Leanne and friends, including Jonty Taylor, also from Hapton.

Mr Jennings, who moved to Hapton from Peterborough, said he is looking forward to the challenge, although he admitted he is apprehensive about spending eight hours a day in the saddle.

He will stay at campsites along the way to keep costs down and is currently training every night after work.

He is aiming to raise £5,000 for the hospice and has so far collected £250.

To help him reach his target Mr Jennings has organised a charity evening on April 9th from 7-30 p.m. at the Ighten Leigh Social Club in Padiham Road, Burnley.

There will be entertainment by band the Subliminals and a raffle. Tickets cost £5 and are available from Mr Jennings or Ighten Leigh Social Club.

“I haven’t done anything like this before. My longest bike ride has been 80-odd miles. Cycling from John O’Groats to Land’s End is more difficult than going the other way because of the prevailing winds.

“I would like to thank everyone for their support,” he said.
