A HAPTON woman who has been told by doctors she has terminal cancer is fighting the disease with a revolutionary raw food and juice diet.

Primary school teacher Kathy Morris (31), of Bridgefield Street, was diagnosed with the disease twice in seven months and, just after Christmas, doctors confirmed her worst fears by telling her it was terminal.

But, in the last few months, Kathy has followed Gerson Therapy, a natural treatment that activates the body’s ability to heal itself through an organic, vegetarian diet, raw juices, coffee enemas and natural supplements.

Kathy’s friends said the treatment, which uses a holistic approach to boost the body’s immune system, had prevented the cancer from spreading further.

Last week, two friends completed a gruelling 24-hour rock climb to raise funds for the expensive clinic sessions.

Andrew Smalley (32) and Will Stockburn (28) did 346 individual climbs, some in complete darkness, and climbed the equivalent of more than a third of the height of Everest during the sponsored event at Heptonstall Quarry.

They raised around £1,000 which will go towards paying for Kathy’s clinic sessions.

Andrew, who met Kathy when they were both pupils at the former Habergham High School, said: I’ve known Kathy for nearly 20 years. She’s moved on to a raw food and juice diet which prevented the cancer from spreading further even though she was told it probably would.

“Unfortunately she has been back in hospital this week and she’s not been able to keep up the diet in hospital.

“But when she gets out, she will be on a more intensive form of the diet.”

Although both experienced rock climbers, Andrew said the challenge was one of the hardest he and Will had faced.

The Express reported in February how Kathy wed her fiance Carl in a dream ceremony after friends and family rallied round to organise their big day.
