“Dangerous” dog seized by police

A “DANGEROUS” dog has been seized from a Burnley house by police.

Fears over the Pit Bull Terrier-like dog led officers to swoop on an address in Parkinson Street.

Specialist dog handlers were drafted in to take the animal away as police executed a warrant last Friday.

The pet was seized under the Dangerous Dogs Act which prohibits people from owning Pit Bull “type” dogs.

The animal will be inspected by officials and could be destroyed.

Former Burnley Wood ward councillor Karen Heseltine, who is a qualified member of the British Institute of Professional Dog Trainers, welcomed the news.

She said: “It is good that the police are being proactive. They will not have taken this decision lightly.

“They will not take a dog away from its owners and possibly have it destroyed for no reason.

“These kind of dogs can be like a weapon because they are so fearful of everything. They can just react on instinct.”

She added: “These kind of dogs can fall into the wrong hands.”
