editorial image

Colne cyclist Stephen Burke has won a gold medal for Great Britain in the men's team pursuit event at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

He joined team-mates Ed Clancy, Peter Kennaugh and Geraint Thomas on the podium last night after triumphing over the Australian team in the final.

And Andrew Stevenson, Pendle MP, later announced the medal winner would be granted the Freedom of the town in honour of his success.

Stephen cycled to victory in a packed Velodrome watched by Seb Coe, Tony Blair, Stella McCartney and Bradley Wiggins.

Don't miss Friday's Leader-Times newspapers for a special tribute to our Olympian.
