NEIGHBOURS have told of hearing shouts and screams coming from a house in Burnley Wood where police found a man with serious head injuries this week.

A murder probe has been launched after the discovery at the man’s home in Burnley Wood.

Five people have been arrested after police were called to the property in Reed Street at 11-20pm on Wednesday.

Officers found the man, believed to be a 51-year-old called Bernard, with a head injury and despite the efforts of police and paramedics he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two women aged 20 and 49 and three men aged 42, 45 and 48 have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Neighbours heard shouting and screaming coming from the address earlier on in the evening and one woman said it sounded like something had been thrown down the stairs.

The neighbour, who did not want to be named, said: “It sounded like there was a ding dong going on. I was watching TV and then all of a sudden there was a ‘bang, crash, wallop’.

“The noise was coming through walls which is where their staircase is.

“I thought ‘Oh my God. What are they doing?’ It was as if something had been thrown down the stairs.

“It was not just a bang it was an absolute crash. It must have been about 8 or 9pm. Then at about midnight there was a woman and man having an absolute ding dong – screaming, balling and shouting.”

A woman, who also did not wish to be named, said: “My sister called an ambulance.

“She went into the house because she heard shouting but she came out screaming.”

Det. Supt Ian Critchley said: “We have launched an investigation following the discovery of a man’s body at an address in Burnley and I would urge anyone with information or who saw anything suspicious to contact us.

“A post-mortem examination will take place later today (Thursday) to establish the exact cause of death and we are currently seeking to identify the victim, who we believe to be a local 51-year-old man.

“Both detectives and neighbourhood policing officers are in the area and if anyone has information or concerns then I would urge them to speak to one of those officers.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
