Burnley drug farmer given more time to pay £42k
A BURNLEY cannabis farmer ordered to pay back more than £42,000 from his ill-gotten gains has been given more time by a judge.
Christopher Thompson (37) was found to have more than £22,000 worth of cannabis and £1,000 at his former home in Red Lees Road.
Thompson, now of Pasturegate, was given a 12-month prison sentence suspended for 24 months and 250 hours community service after admitting the offence at Burnley Crown Court last October.
He was ordered to pay back a total of £42,981.83 during a Proceeds of Crime Act Hearing at court within six months or face a 15-month jail sentence in addition to paying back the cash.
The court has now been told that Thompson has struggled to sell his property to pay back the money.
He put the house on the market for £100,000 just days after the order was imposed but tough housing market conditions have seen not one single person view the property.
Judge Newell extended the order until July 17th to pay the money but said no more time would be given after that.
