TWO brothers involved in a fracas in a Burnley pub in which the landlord was punched and windows were smashed have been fined by magistrates.

Jason Mount (24), of Hillsborough Avenue, Brierfield, and Daniel Mount (27), of Cross Street, Briercliffe, became involved in the disturbance at the Sun Inn pub, Harle Syke, on September 2nd. The brothers had been out celebrating following the christening of Jason Mount’s daughter.

The pair admitted using threatening, abusive, insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of or provoke violence, at Burnley Magistrates’ Court.

Jason Mount was fined £125, ordered to pay £100 compensation, £85 in costs and a £20 victim surcharge. Daniel Mount was fined £200, ordered to pay £100 compensation, £85 in costs and a £25 victim surcharge.

Mr Tom Snape (prosecuting) said the brothers were part of a group of men drinking in the pub around 9-15pm.

They went into the smoking room and were being rowdy. The group became involved in an incident involving the landlord, who was assaulted, and a chair and some windows were broken.

The men left the pub and some locals chased after them, leading to a further disturbance outside.

The brothers were later arrested and accepted they were part of the group, they had been rowdy and had been part of the group responsible for causing the damage.

Mr Snape said both men were of previous good character and neither was responsible for assaulting the landlord.

Mr Dylan Bradshaw (defending) said the brothers’ behaviour was out of character and both were themselves left with facial injuries after the incident.

He said Jason Mount was a family man and his brother Daniel had a good job as an engineer which took him all over the country.

He said after the christening the women had gone home and some of the men decided to carry on drinking. “They had a bit too much to drink,” he said.

The chairman of the Bench said: “This is obviously a one-off for you two.”
