WORKMEN have uncovered bones buried in the cellar of a Burnley house.

The discovery was made during rennovations of the Shorey Bank property off Ormerod Road.

The men feared the bones may have been human and called in police investigators on Saturday.

Forensics experts took the bones away for further examination.

DI Charlie Haynes, of Burnley Police Station, said: “The workmen believed the bones may have been human and called police.

“Forensics examined them and found they were animal bones. It was the shoulder of a sheep. They could have been buried there for years.”

DI Haynes confirmed that tests were still being carried out on a human skull found recently in a Burnley river.

The grim discovery was made by a man and woman out walking in Spa Wood near Cemetary Wood and the former Hapton Colliery.
