LETTER: There are lots of children with communication problems

I WAS surprised when I read Gordon Birtwistle’s column (Friday, March 18th) when he said that he was shocked to find out that 23% of young people in prison in the UK have a learning difficulty or communication difficulty.

There are a lot of children in this country let down by the school system, not all of them in prison or will go to prison.

He should not be surprised, as this and the last Government will not help any child with communication problems who cannot, for one reason or another, be taught at school. I know, as I have been trying since last year to get financial help for my granddaughter, but to no avail.
