LETTER: Gordon Birtwistle has made hospital issue political

I WAS somewhat surprised to read that Mr Birtwistle, in his letter to the Express, feels that I and my Labour friends have made the hospital issue a political one.

All I need to say to that is has Gordon not read the many leaflets put out in his name and that of the Liberal Democrats over the last five years clearly showing he has not fought a non-political campaign?

Despite all his statements, the children’s ward will be at Blackburn and the A&E in the main also remains at Blackburn.

I look at Burnley General Hospital and see sections of it – including parts of Phase V – standing underused while Blackburn is overstretched. The fact is that the people of Burnley and Pendle want services provided here at Burnley General whenever it is possible and sensible to do so.
