New university students are being urged to register with a doctor

University students who have moved to Burnley to study are being urged to register with a doctor in the town.

NHS England in Lancashire wants to stress the importance of registering with a local doctor at the beginning of term.

Health experts said this is when students are most vulnerable, and also susceptible to stress and anxiety.

Maureen Kirwan, assistant director revalidation for NHS England in Lancashire, said: “We would urge new students to take the time to think about what they would do if they became ill. Registering with a local GP is really important.” Students who need non-urgent medical care can also call 111. To find your nearest GP practice, visit www.nhs.uk
