This year’s Pendle Pub Walk has smashed all records and is on course to raise well in excess of £50,000 for Pendleside Hospice.
The event, organised by the Rotary Club of Burnley Pendleside, attracted around 1,000 walkers back in June.
A special celebration evening was staged at the club’s meeting last Wednesday, when hospice fund-raising manager Christina Cope revealed that more than £48,000 had already been raised with sponsorship money still to come from more than 200 participants.
The staggering total has already smashed all previous records.
Past president of the Rotary Club of Burnley Pendleside James Swindells said: “The total is absolutely amazing. The walk has gone from strength to strength and we are already getting requests for information on next year’s event.”
As well as the hospice money another £5,000 of entry money has gone to Rotary charities.
Christina Cope praised the club for their support. She said: “The Pendle Pub Walk is one of my favourite events of the year.
“The atmosphere is incredible with walkers of all ages making the day a memorable one.”
Walker Gareth Wilson was earlier presented with a special tankard for raising a staggering £2,950 in memory of Andrea Wilson.
