A team of 17 fitness fanatics from a Burnley personal training centre braved a series of gruelling challenges and deep mud to complete a Tough Mudder event in Cheshire.
The group, aged between 21 and 55 with varying fitness levels, all attend FX Fitness Experience in Manchester Road. They finished the 12-mile course as a team after tackling obstacles such as a 30ft. slope, dark tunnels, fire, water and electric shocks.
FX owner Jamie Kennedy, who led the team, said they only decided to enter the event four weeks before.
“The atmosphere was really good. We did it all as a team. It didn’t matter if someone was struggling, everyone just helped each other.”
Mum Sue, also a personal trainer at FX, added: “The camaraderie was brilliant. We had some really fit people doing it and they helped the others. We’ve got a client who was in hospital two-and-a-half years ago with a heart condition and they never thought they’d be able to do it but they did.”
Although the group only had four weeks to officially train for Tough Mudder they crammed in as much preparation as possible, taking part in bootcamps, running up Pendle Hill and lying in the river in Barley.
Jamie said: “Some of the challenges are really difficult. One woman got stuck in the clay and dislocated her knee. We had a few bruises but no real injuries. We are going to do it again next year, some of the supporters we took along to watch have said they want to do it now. It was amazing.”
