Burnley people are being encouraged to make the most of outdoor exercise equipment to get themselves fit.

The Fit4All facility in Towneley Park was installed in 2011 after conservation group the Friends of Towneley Park was granted Big Lottery funding.

Now members of the group are urging families to use the equipment throughout the autumn.

Mr Derek Pierson, a 73-year-old former Mr Universe, used the facility to shed one-and-a-half stones.

Mrs Maureen Frankland, Friends of Towneley Park chairman, said: “We have been delighted to see the fitness equipment used by individuals and families over the summer, but the facility is available throughout the year and we would like to see more people benefitting from this free facility. It is an ideal way of keeping fit and losing a bit of weight as the autumn approaches.”

The fitness equipment is located on the Woodgrove site, near the Hanbrig entrance, off Todmorden Road.
