A NINE-YEAR-OLD girl from Burnley is getting ready to complete a triathlon to raise money for a cancer hospital.

Kira Ormerod, who lives in Brunshaw, was prompted to organise the event, consisting of a two-mile bike ride, two-mile run or walk and a 500m swim, after a close family member was treated at the Christie Hospital in Manchester.

Kira, a pupil at St Mary’s Primary School, in Holcombe Drive, will complete the challenge in different stages throughout March, starting on March 17th with the run, followed by the cycle ride, and is training hard for the swim which she plans to complete at the end of March at the St Peter’s Centre in Burnley.

The schoolgirl, who has a younger sister Skye (3), has got the backing of proud mum Simone Duthoit.

“I’m trying to help her with a little bit of training and with the fund-raising but she told me she wants to do the triathlon all herself,” she said.

“I’m really proud of her. So far she’s raised £70 on her Just Giving page and we’ve got some collection buckets.”

To sponsor Kira visit www.justgiving.com/Kirakira. Collection buckets can also be found at Pat’s Baps, in Lyndhurst Road, the Red House pub, Rosegrove, Burnley League Club, in Richard Street, and Towneley Garden Centre.
