A YOUNG girl was taken to hospital after a fire broke out in her kitchen.

Firefighters were called to the house in Harold Avenue, Burnley, at 5-45 p.m. yesterday when a fire alarm alerted the two occupants to smoke in the kitchen.

A ventilation unit was used to clear the property and the girl, who had breathed in a bit of the smoke, was taken to Burnley General Hospital as a precaution.

Crew manager Kieron Ogden said: “It started under the sink and at first we thought it may have a been a cooker or one of the electrical appliances. It was accidental but it’s under investigation because we are unsure as to how it started.

“There were hardly any flames but there was quite a lot of smoke and they were lucky that they were alerted by the fire alarm.”
