Thousands of homes and businesses across a large area of Burnley were without electricity yesterday after freak weather caused a power cut.
Electricity North West said the power cut, which happened around 5pm, was triggered when lightning struck during a storm. Around 27,000 properties right across town were affected, including in the town centre.
A spokesman for Electricity North West said power was automatically restored within a matter of minutes.
Meanwhile strong winds and thunderstorms also caused problems for people celebrating bonfire night. The annual bonfire and lantern parade in Cliviger had to be cancelled due to the weather.
