BURNLEY fire crews have slammed arsonists who started a blaze in the former Burnley gas works in Oswald Street.

The incident happened at 3-30 p.m. today and watch manager Steve Harrison, from Burnley fire station, said the culprits were “irresponsible.”

Crews used two breathing apparatus, a hose reel and thermal-imaging camera to tackle the flames.

It is believed the fire was started deliberately and police are investigating.
