“We have lost everything.’’

Those were the words of devastated father of three Steve Pilkington whose home in Station Road, Padiham, was flooded completely.

Just one sofa was salvaged from downstairs at the terraced home in Station Road, Padiham, as the water rose up through the cellar on Boxing Day morning.

Steve said: “We have insurance but not against flooding. It is absolutely devastating for this to happen.’’

He has lived in the home for eight years with his wife Claire and their three children, Alex (14) Megan, nine and five-year-old Sadie who are now staying with relatives.

Claire thanked everyone who turned out to help the family, saying: “We will be staying with friends for the time being but we aren’t really sure what will happen after that.

“I watched the floods in Cumbria and felt so sorry for those people without ever thinking that the same thing was going to happen to us. But it has been fantastic that so many people have offered their help, they just turned up out of nowhere.

“It has made me love Padiham even more for that is the true spirit of this town.’’
