England cricketer Andrew “Freddie” Flintoff caused a stir when he made an appearance at a netball tournament last weekend.

He was on “dad duty” watching his own daughter, Holly, play in the under 11 category of the Ribble Valley open netball tournament at Nelson’s Pendle Vale High School.

His arrival brightened up a drizzly Sunday afternoon and young players from Burnley Netball Club, Ruby Owen,Imogen Ferguson and Jess Walker even plucked up courage to ask for a “selfie” with him.

And Freddie, who is from Preston, was more than happy to oblige for the thrilled pals who are classmates at St Mary Magdalene’s RC Primary School in Burnley.

Junior netball teams from Burnley, the Ribble Valley. Bury, Blackpool, Wilmslow, Rochdale and Warrington, competed in the tournament that ran over two days and included sessions for under nines, under 11s and under 14s.
