Precocious pupils at Reedley Primary School have been busy helping their headteacher.
The “Young Leaders” from Year 6 were chosen to act as an inspiration for their fellow pupils and work to create a positive image of the school.
The children, Janita Butt, Laylaa Wahid, Abdullah Iqbal, Adam Malik and Sahil Shafiq invited Burnley Express reporter Dominic Collis to tell him about their work.
Headteacher Mrs Ruth Thompson said: “We set up the Young Leaders scheme about six years ago and it has been a real success.
“The pupils chosen have always embraced it and really inspired their peers.
“They try to keep their eyes and ears open about good things happening in the world and pass this on to the younger children. It helps to create a very positive atmosphere in school.
“The children wanted to change the sometimes negative perception of young people in the area. They have proved there are plenty of good young people out there.”
The pupils also told Dominic about projects they have worked on in school including creating a chain of pom-poms for charity. They also recently invited the school nurse, lollipop man and governors into school to thank them for their work.
Finally, they have also made suggestions to school architects working on an extension to the school which is due to open in September.
