She said: “There is a lovely family atmosphere at the school and I have been made to feel very welcome.”

After qualifiying as a teacher at the Manchester Metropolitan Museum in 1997, Mrs Cheetham took up her first teaching post in Rochdale. She became a deputy head in 2003 and was appointed to her first headship six years later.

Originally from Middleton, Mrs Cheetham has three children aged 23, 15 and 13 and a grandddaughter who is four.

Settling into her new role, Mrs Cheetham has a raft of new ideas she hopes to introduce to the school including the Meet the Teacher initiative. This has given every parent in the school to chance to meet with their child’s teacher as the new term begins.

Mrs Cheetham said: “My aim is to make my pupils’ years at primary school enjoyable and memorable to stand them in good stead for the future.”
