A group of year seven students from Sir John Thursby Community College took part in a one-day barista training course organised by the Holiday Inn Express in Burnley.

The group of 12 students are all now holders of Level One Barista certificates following the course, which was done in partnership with coffee produces Douwe Egbert’s and their expert barista Francesco Mercurio.

Head of Sir John Thursby Community College David Burton says he is pleased that the students have trained to become qualified baristas.

He said: “We are delighted that companies regularly contact us asking for our students to work for them and every year all of our students have places at college, an apprenticeship or a job when they leave us.

“The Holiday Inn Express are our Business in the Community partner and our partnership has helped us both have brilliant years.”

Kerian Barnes, General Manager at the Holiday Inn Express, said the students all enjoyed themselves.

“The barista training went down incredibly well with the students,” he explained.

“The certificate will help to form part of their personal statement and CV, all-important factors when these students will be seeking work or looking to develop a career.
