Labour’s shadow secretary for children and families Ali McGovern visited a Burnley nursery.

Miss McGovern visited Giant Leap Childcare in the week the charity 4Children reported that one in five parents are being forced to reduce their hours or give up work altogether because childcare costs have risen 30% under the Coalition Government.

She said: “It was great to visit Giant Leap Childcare today and see first hand what a fantastic job they are doing. Good Childcare services are essential for getting people back into work.

“Labour’s pledge to extend free childcare for three and four year olds with parents in work from 15 to 25 hours per week will make a big difference to help parents back into work.”

Julie Cooper, Labour’s parliamentary candidate for Burnley, said she was impressed by the commitment of the staff.

She added: “It was pleasing to see Burnley children obviously thriving in this environment.”
